Swiatek and Gauff advance to WTA in Beijing

The China Open, WTA tournament in Beijing, this Monday saw two of its main favourites, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff, second and third seeds respectively, advance to the second round of the competition.

In an outstanding matchup, the world number two, Polish Swiatek, advanced to the second round by defeating the Spanish. Sarah Sorribes (No. 55 WTA) in two sets, with scores of 6-4 and 6-3.

Swiatek, former world number 1, will face the Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva (#47) in the next round.

Meanwhile, the US Open champion, the American Coco Gauff (No. 3), continued his winning streak by defeating the Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova (no. 20) in two sets, 7-5 and 6-3.

Gauff He has won 13 games in a row, 19 of his last 20, and at 19 years old he is one of the best players on the circuit.

On the other hand, the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko (no. 17), automatically advanced to the round of 16 due to the scheduled withdrawal due to illness of his opponent, the Czech Linda Noskova (no. 42).

The Kazakh Elena Rybakina (5) also had a successful debut at the China Open, a WTA 1,000 tournament held in Beijing, by defeating the local Qinwen Zheng in two sets, 6-1 and 6-2.
