David Beckham spoke in a documentary about the pain he felt leaving the Manchester United in the summer of 2003 he signed for real Madridsaying he begged to stay at Old Trafford.
The former England international, now the owner of Inter Miami, said he asked the club: ‘”Can I speak to the boss?”, before being told: “No, he doesn’t want to speak to you”, in reference to one Sir Alex Ferguson, who at the time angered him after throwing a coach’s boot at his head.
Then Beckham said: “I need to speak to the boss, I need to know that this is what he really wants, so that I can leave” and “I begged him not to fire me, but I couldn’t contact him. Did I ever want to leave ?” Manchester United? No, never.”
