When John Campbell wrote a poem called “Carl the Crusader,” few people knew how prophetic it would be.
It was a tribute to Carl Frampton and was written a month before Jackal made his professional debut in 2009.
In it, famed Belfast poet Campbell welcomes the amateur class and Frampton’s legacy and confidently predicts further success in the paid ranks.
And it ends with the sentence: “Karl Frampton – the king of the world with superhuman weight!”.
Campbell’s intuition paid off when Frampton became the world double weight champion, winning Super Banta titles in welterweight and featherweight.
He is one of three Irish boxers to win world titles in two different weight classes and to make a name for himself in the Pantheon for the greatest fighters in Irish history.
Campbell sent his poem to Frampton after winning the world title in Super Banta, adding the message: “I’m glad the prophecy came true!”
Frampton – who retired nearly a year ago – has kept it and shared it on his social media.
Here is the full…
Carl the Crusader (Salute to the Warrior)
Carl Frampton on a crusade from Belfast!
I regret the warrior who faces his wrath
perform his business tricks,
Which he will download to anyone who gets in his way.
Amateur legend, textbook technician,
Join the price ranks and be successful in trading!
He worked long and hard to gain recognition,
And the campaign won’t stop until you get a rating.
Her first meeting was in June and she has come to perfection.
An unforgettable debut will take place in Liverpool,
While others are leading the bill, it will be the main attraction!
So I cleaned the floors when Carl came to conquer and rule.
From the famous Tiger Bay north of Belfast,
He’s really proud of his roots and limp by fans,
If you are in the fighting ranks, I offer my regrets,
You will sleep on the canvas if you try to thwart his plans.
He won all over Europe, won amateur glory,
And he escaped all the blows of his mightiest warriors,
Soon the title of this banner will tell its exciting story…
Carlo Frampton! The superweight king of the world!
