This Monday the organizing committee of Los Angeles 2028 was sent to International Olympic Committee (IOC) a proposal for include baseball/softball, cricket, squash, flag football and lacrosse in their Olympic Games.
“The LA28 Olympic Games have shared their official proposal for new Olympic sports, including baseball/softball, flag football, cricket, lacrosse and squash, at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for its possible inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games,” said a statement published this Monday by LA28.
Organizers want to add these sports to a list that currently includes 28, including water sports, archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, canoeing, cycling, horse riding, fencing, golf, gymnastics, handball, judo, rowing, climbing sports or surfing.
“In preparing the Olympic sports program, we are ready to challenge the status quo and think differently about what is possible for the Games in Los Angeles. (…) “We have arrived at a bold and balanced proposal that will invigorate the Games with a culture of competition and limitless possibilities.”said Kathy Carter, CEO of LA28.
The proposal will be reviewed by the IOC at its next meeting, scheduled for October 16 in Bombay (India).
The The Los Angeles Olympic Games will be held from July 14 to 30, 2028.
