The Italian company Pirelli will continue to be Formula One’s tire supplier until 2027 after the International Automobile Federation (FIA) accepted a three-year renewal proposal with an option for another year, extending the relationship to 2028.
“Pirelli has been selected as the sole tire supplier for Formula 1, Formula 2 and Formula 3 for the 2025-27 triennium“, the FIA reported on Tuesday.
The renewal comes just after the last Grand Prix held, that of Qatar, where Dutchman Max Verstappen was crowned world champion for the third consecutive time, Pirelli verified during Friday’s free practice that the tires used for more than 20 laps did not meet all the relevant safety parameters.which caused the track limits to increase in two of the Lusail circuit’s 16 corners, where the curves were too corrosive.
In addition, the pilots were forced to stop three times and thus did not ride 18 more laps with the same tires.
The contract of the Milan company, which has been in Formula One since 2011, on replaces the English Bridgestone, which expires at the end of 2024.
