Everything is ready. ‘La Massana’, which translates as the sports city that Girona will build, is very close to obtaining the definitive construction license that will allow it to lay the first stone of its biggest project in history.
According to ‘l’Esportiu’, the ‘Commisício d’Urbanisme de l’Ajuntament de Vilablareix’ will meet in the coming days to give the specific building permit showing ‘yes’ to the Girona club. To do this, the reports presented must be favorable to the intentions of the project presented by the club at that time.
All returned to complaints from one sector after the presentation made by the red-and-white entity in February. As shown by Ferran Soriano (executive director of the City Group), Pere Guardiola (president of the Board of Directors) and other big names related to the Catalan club, the sports city will start to be built in the month of September.
The paperwork and several allegations from groups opposing the project have delayed the start of works that now seem imminent. The club is all set for the first phase of construction, where the training facilities for the first team will be planned with two football fields, the gym and other infrastructure needed by the main staff. All this, as explained in the aforementioned presentation, using the latest technology applied.
These weeks of delay may also delay the second phase of the works, scheduled for September next year, where the five remaining soccer fields will be built to accommodate the base and the first team of women, as well as other structures needed by trainers. The pharaonic work can be finished, in the absence of some pressings that will come in the coming years, around the 2025/2026 academic year.
Finally, and if nothing unusual happens in the coming days, Girona will now put on its overalls to build a project at the level of first team performance in the First Division. Little by little, Míchel’s men will leave La Vinya to tie their ties in ‘La Massana’, the club’s first major sports city in its entire history while fighting for more than ambitious goals.
