Gabriel Veigawho at the end of August announced his departure from Celta de Vigo to join the Al Ahli of the Saudi league, spoke about his decision and his adaptation to his new team and the life and culture of a new country to ‘El Larguero’ (Ser).
“I was surprised in a good way because despite being in a country with a different culture, it was the first time I left my house and I was adapting well. The hardest thing for me was the heat and humidity,” he said. Regarding the coach, the German Matthias Jaissle, he affirms that his insistence was decisive: “It was one of the reasons that motivated me to go there. He called me many times a day and I value it a lot in terms of trust.”
So you didn’t leave for the money? “It’s a strange question. I understand that everyone has their own opinion and has to make their decisions, but there were other factors that tipped the balance and I’m proud of the step I took. What those reasons? Well, in the end , of all the options that allowed me the most to continue growing as a footballer, in a league with great stars who are growing a lot. It’s a step to look to the future and although some people will not understand it, this is the best step I can take.”
There was another reason that pushed him: the money he left in Celta’s box. “That’s also the reason for making the decision, helping the team in your life is very important,” he said.
Regarding a possible return to LaLiga, he said: You never know what can happen, but one day my motivation can be to play in the Champions League, to win European titles. Even two years ago I never thought I would go to Saudi Arabia and now I am very happy and happy.”
