Sir Jim Ratcliffe is one step away from completing the purchase of 25% of Manchester United shares, as reported by the English media. The Englishman’s offer must be approved by the Old Trafford club’s board of directors and the Glazer family this week, but all indications are that the Ineos owner will end up at the Mancunian team.
This Saturday news broke that Qatari Sheikh Jassim had withdrawn his offer to buy 100% of the club, leaving the way for Ratcliffe, who hopes to have a presence to take the whole of United.
The petrochemical billionaire will pay around £1.4bn for a quarter to own the club, which is understood to be the first step in a gradual buyout of the Red Devils.
His proposal is expected to be ratified in the coming days and it is clear that, in return, his group will receive the reins of the sporting part of the business, seeking to return United to its former glory.
