Chelsea already has the ground for its new stadium

Date:

Chelsea has acquired some land adjacent to Stamford Bridge and for which it has paid 80 million pounds (88 million euros) where it intends to carry out the remodeling of its current stadium.

Despite this, the ‘Blues’ chiefs are yet to make a final decision on what to do with this new space, whether to demolish the existing Stamford Bridge and build a new ground, or whether to remodel the current one.

These lands, located in the neighborhood of Fulham, west London, belong to a charity association for war veterans which for nine weeks is considering whether to sell the property or not.

Finally, and after rejecting thirteen offers from other interested parties, Chelsea have taken the land and from 2025 can start planning a new Stamford Bridge.

“Chelsea’s offer allows us to limit the uncertainty for the residents (of the association) and provide long-term support. The Fulham ground does not have a long-term future and although it is a difficult time for our guests , this is something we have to do because it will allow us to help them in the future,” the Stoll association said in a statement.

The ambition of Todd Boehly, current owner of Chelsea, is to expand the capacity of Stamford Bridge to 55,000 spectators, away from the current 40,000, although it has not been decided whether to demolish the stadium or improve the current one.

If Stamford Bridge falls, Chelsea will have to find their matches at another stadium, which could be Craven Cottage, the closest, Twickenham, home of the English rugby team, London Stadium, current home of West Ham United, or Wembley, if where Tottenham Hotspur have played for almost two years while completing their new ground.
