The Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona 2023 will launch a new route that for the first time will pass through the neighborhood of Poble Nou and beyond 13,500 runners this Sunday in its 24th edition, which will mean an increase in fifteen% compared to last year.
After exhausting the 12,500 numbers in the first sale, last Sunday a thousand more places were opened and already filled, by a 38.6% of female registrations in totalwhich was confirmed this Wednesday by the organization in the official presentation of the race.
In an event held in the Paseo de Lluís Companys, in front of the Arc de Triomphe, the Councilor for Sports of the Barcelona City Council, David Escudé, emphasized that “Sold out bibs is great news which indicates that runners are eager to try out this new circuit and beat their own personal bests.”
Participants will start at Paseo Picasso, next to Ciudadela Park, and walk along Avenida del Marquès de l’Argentera, Paseo de Colón, Avenida del Paral·lel, Rocafort Street, Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, Paseo Sant Joan , Buenaventura Muñoz Street, Avila Street and Pujades Street in a ten kilometer circular route.
“This Sunday, October 22, we will fill the streets of our city’s firefighters to experience the race firsthand, to encourage the participants in their sporting challenges and also to support the solidarity initiatives of this event”Escudé assured.
As every year, the thousands of participants will be accompanied by more than 300 firefighters from the Barcelona Corps and the Generalitat of Catalonia dressed in service clothes, weighing more than 20 kilograms, to complete the race. As usual, they will be in charge of getting the first departure at 8:50 am.
For his part, the sports director of the race, Roger Roca, has already commented on the change of route that the organization wants “that the new route will be faster” but preserves “the essence of the previous editions.”
“That’s why we chose a 360-degree circuit and the removal of 200 meters of Paral·lel Avenue, the only uneven section of the race,” he detailed.
