The marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge is already in Oviedo, where this Friday he will be awarded the Princess of Asturias Sports Award 2023, awarded by the Princess of Asturias Foundation and where twenty-four candidates from eleven other’ different nationalities compete. Kipchoge, at 38 years old, is considered one of the great international sports stars of recent years and the best marathon runner in history.
The Kenyan won the award that recognizes him as the absolute king of the marathon, recognized by the jury, which is made up of top athletes and journalists and which includes the deputy director of Mundo Deportivo Cristina Cubero. The ‘Philosopher’ was recognized as the “best marathon runner of all time”, of course, before Kelvin Kiputum recently took the world record from him on October 8 in Chicago with a time of 2:00:35.
Kipchoge is the only one in history who managed to go under two hours in 42,195 kilometers, albeit with a mark that is not officially recognized. But in addition to his incredible brands, the jury appreciated his great social work and highlighted that his award also has an important social component “through the foundation that bears his name, dedicated to facilitating access to early childhood education and Environmental Protection”.
