Benzema received more support from France

Date:

Karim Benzema received support and solidarity from France after Tuesday’s serious accusation by the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmain, of having links to the radical Islamist group Muslim Brotherhood.

First, leftist leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon came out in defense of the former Real Madrid player and this afternoon the president of the French Football Federation did the same.

“He is one of the greatest French players,” said Philippe Diallo, interim president after the resignation of Noël Le Graët. “About Karim Benzema, to be honest, I don’t want to get into this controversy, I don’t have the elements. He has a very wide career, he won the Ballon d’Or, and I stay there.”

The footballer, who has been playing for Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia since this season, defended himself against these accusations through his lawyer on Wednesday. “Praying on October 15 for civilian populations subjected to bombing that spares women or children clearly does not constitute ‘Hamas propaganda’ or ‘conspiracy to terrorism or acts of collaboration,'” said Hugues Vigier.
