The Italian Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia (Ducati Desmosedici GP23), which did not qualify for the second straight classification being eleventh, regretted that When they put the soft tires to do the “time attack”, problems came.
“We started the session with the intermediate tire to do more laps with it, and my sensations were good, I felt good and my speed was one of the best, but when I put the soft tire to do the ‘time-attack’ their problems have arrived,” insisted Bagnaia.
“Probably the best strategy is to start like the other drivers, with soft tires, to study the reaction of that tire, but we decided this. The approach was probably better in terms of the race, but I suffered a lot on acceleration and entering fast corners,” explained the leader of the MotoGP world championship.
“My bike was very aggressive, very nervous, because from the last corner to the finish line I lost two tenths to Martín, which was incredible. I was losing traction all over the track., that was the problem, but as in Mandalika (Indonesia), the sensations on the bike were not bad. It’s weird,” acknowledged the current MotoGP world champion.
In relation to the change in weather, he mentioned that “Considering the weather forecast I’ve seen for Sunday, this is the best, without a doubt. On Sunday it will be difficult to even open the garage, as winds of 50 km/h more are expected. “It’s definitely better.”
“We have workers harder than the rest for the long race with the tires, but it’s difficult, because tomorrow morning will be difficult (Q1) and it will be a very complicated day. Very stressful,” acknowledged Bagnaia.
Regarding his failure not to go to the second direct classification, he explained: “We moved from circuit to circuit more or less with the same set-up, but for me it wasn’t working. In Mandalika it’s not the first time, it’s more or less the whole season that on Friday we suffer a lot, on Saturday it’s better and on Sunday we’re the fastest.”
“Here, we have one less day to try to be the fastest, and in this circuit it is difficult to have a clear advantage. Looking at the speed this morning and this afternoon, I had one of the most competitive in terms of lap times and consistency with the tires, because I used intermediate while others used soft, and that’s that’s why I think our work has been better than others today, but we have to improve when it comes to starting with better feelings,” admitted Bagnaia.
