Will clubs from other islands join to show their support for the 2030 World Cup in Gran Canaria?

Campaign in the Canary Islands in favor of the arrival of the 2030 FIFA World Cup in Gran Canaria. Gran Canaria’s candidacy to host the next 2030 Soccer World Cup to be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco will receive the support and impetus of the club’s two highest representatives in football and basketballUD Las Palmas and Dreamland Gran Canaria, which will present a logo designed for this purpose.

In particular, UD Las Palmas will carry the corporate brand on its shirts from next Sunday, in the match of LaLiga EA Sports in front of Rayo Vallecano, while Dreamland Gran Canaria will place it in the central circle of the Gran Canaria Arena court at Liga Endesa and EuroCup matchesthe last competition in which they defended the title was won last season.

The logo was presented this Friday by the president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales; the Minister of Sports, Aridany Romero; the president of the Interinsular Football Federation of Las Palmas, José Juan Arencibia; the president of UD Las Palmas, Miguel Angel Ramirez; and the president of Dreamland Gran Canaria, Sitapha Savane.

Morales emphasized that Gran Canaria meets “all the conditions” to host the 2030 World Cup, highlighting the tourist infrastructure and good communicationwith an international airport, as well as the benefits of the climate, and announced that on the 30th all the improvement works that will be carried out both in the Gran Canaria Stadium and around it will be presented in more detail.

Morales clarified that if it is not chosen as the headquarters, he hopes it will be for “technical reasons.” In fact, he said he wouldn’t leave go to court of law in case of rejection of candidacy by “subjective criteria”.

The Minister of Sports, Aridany Romeroinsisted on qualifying the Gran Canaria project as “solvent”, and assured that the forecasts they had were that it was “the fifth or sixth best proposal” of those presented.

He also argued that although the period recommended by FIFA is completed in 2029 all the sports infrastructures that will host the World Cup, he is confident that the island will prepare them earlier, in 2027, with the main focus on the Gran Canaria Stadium, which its capacity needs to be expanded from 32,400 seats to a minimum of 40,000 to meet one of the requirements.
