The bicycle demonstration in Innsbruck offered countless barriers and traffic delays in and around Innsbruck. Markus Gassler, head of the service of the Tyrolean “Krone”, analyzed this in his comment.
As a driver – and in large parts of Tyrol, in contrast to, for example, Vienna, it is currently not easy. There is no daily passes when you are not in the traffic jam somewhere. There are various reasons for this. There are once the trucks that struggle every day, bumper on the bumper, through the Unterinnntal and the burner. This is the holiday traffic from north to south and then back. The Pentecost weekend was a first taste, the next vacation will follow next week with Corpus Christi.
If you have the opportunity, you must avoid the streets on the neuralgic points – from the Fernpass, Brenner, Zirlerberg to the Achental to Eck, Germany. And then there are a few construction sites that contribute to the rest – this is mainly influenced by the larger area in and around Innsbruck. Are all construction sites really necessary? A legitimate question imposed! But that is a different story.
And if that wasn’t enough, there was also a bicycle demo in Innsbruck on Friday. Moreover on the highway. Is that really necessary? I already know: freedom of expression! Yes, fits. But was it absolutely necessary to block the highway? Apart from the fact that bicycles on the highway is forbidden, it would have been sufficient if you had limited the demo to the urban area.
Conclusion: bicycle demo yes, but certainly not on the highway: cycling has not lost absolutely nothing. Or is a car -ever approved on a cycle path? Certainly not!
