Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that he is not happy with the Premier League’s decision to schedule his team’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on December 24 as it is the day before he and his wife’s wedding anniversary.
The Premier League decided to break this tradition that lasted 28 years (the last match on December 24 was a Leeds United-Manchester United in 1995) to please the television networks and without considering the fans, who have to travel to Wolverhampton despite the lack of trains on that date.
“I’m not happy because the 23rd is my husband’s wedding anniversary and I have to go to Wolverhampton. And the 24th is an important night date for Argentinians. “Neither the fans are happy with this decision nor am I happy,” Pochettino said this Friday in a press conference.
“It’s a difficult situation and it’s not going to change. We have to accept that we are in England and it is different from the rest of the world. Even though I’m not happy with it, we have to be at the best level and accept a situation that won’t change,” commented the Argentine coach.
Regarding the possibility of his wife seeing him in Wolverhampton, Pochettino said: “I don’t think I can convince him.”
