Jon Rahm, currently number three in the world rankings, will not participate in the new one TMRW Golf League (TGL), virtual golf leaguewhich starts next January, arguing that it cannot offer the ‘commitment’ required by this competition.
“I am saddened to confirm that I will not be participating in the first season of TGL. While I think this is a great opportunity, at this time it will require a level of commitment that I cannot offer. Best of luck to all involved and may the best team win!”, Rahm said on his official account on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
TGL, with the approval of select players such as Tiger Woods or Rory McIlroy, current world number 2, Collin Morikawa or Justin Thomas, will start on January 9, and will include a regular season with 15 qualifying games for a grand final that will pit the two best teams against each other , in best of three games.
It is a virtual golf league, in which six teams participate, each with three players (there are four, but one rests every week). It will be played in a stadium, the SoFi Center (Palm Beach State College, Florida) with the presence of an audience, and each player will be filmed on a large screen with a simulation, which will record the supposed path of the ball.
The matches format includes 15 holes, nine of which are ‘alternating shot’ (three against three) and six individual ‘one against one’ with each player playing two. One point will be awarded for a hole won and none for a tied hole. Each team gets 2 units for each final victory.
The best four out of six teams go to the playoffs, with direct elimination semi-finals. The winners will play in the final.
