Great sadness at the Medical Association and the trade union GPA: The former Social Democratic trade unionist and health official Franz Bittner has passed away, he died a few days before his 70th birthday after a short, serious illness.
With Bittner has left a trade unionist and health official who has always “devoted himself to patients with all his heart”, wrote Johannes Steinhart, president of the Medical Association, about the death of the former patient ombudsman of the Vienna Medical Association. As chairman of the Vienna Regional Health Insurance Fund and head of the printers’ union, he was “a model example of social partnership in action”.
GPA chairman: “People with a big heart”
Viennese mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) was also affected. The deceased’s focus on solutions was always in the foreground in his various positions, he writes. GPA President Barbara Teiber praised Bittner as “a person with a big heart who always combined consistency with the necessary willingness to make compromises.”
