The distance of 273.9 km and 4,470 meters of elevation gain will offer a great opportunity to the classics and climbers of the route in World Championships 2024, which will take place from September 21 to 29 of next year at Zurich (Switzerland), event presented by International Cycling Union.

The main difficulty on the route is the ascent to Kyburg (1.2 km with an average slope of 12% and a maximum slope of 16%), Zürichbergstrasse (1.1 km with an average slope of 8% and a maximum slope which is 15 %) and Witikon (2.3 km with an average slope of 5.7% and a maximum slope of 9%).
women’s road race
The Elite women’s road race will start in Uster and cover a distance of 154.1 km with an altitude of 2,488 meters. It will conclude with four laps of the same final circuit as the men’s Elite race. In addition to the difficulties of the last circuit already mentioned, the Women’s Elite will face the climb to Binz (4.6 km with an average slope of 4.5% and a maximum slope of 9%).
Team and individual time trial
The team time trial, mixed relay, will take place in two laps (one for women and one for men) in the aforementioned final circuit.
The Elite men’s individual time trial will start at the Oerlikon velodrome track. The distance will be 46.1 km with a gradient of 413 meters, mostly flat, although it will have an undulating section in the middle of the route.
The Elite women’s individual time trial will consist of 29.9 km and 327 meters of elevation gain and will start in Gossau. The route will have a similar profile to the Men’s Elite, with an undulating section, in this case before the halfway point of the route.
The inclusion of paracycling in the UCI Road World Championships in Zurich will be the main innovation of the 2024 edition. All paracycling road races will start in Zurich (Sechseläutenplatz or Münsterhof) and finish in Sechseläutenplatz, while the individual time trials will start in Zurich (Sechseläutenplatz) or in Gossau.
The paracycling road race courses vary by sport class* and will cover one or more of the following sections: final circuit in Zurich, circuits along Lake Zurich (less demanding in terms of slope ).
The routes of individual paracycling time trials also vary according to sports divisions and their starting points.
