Almost 20,000 asylum seekers reached Britain in the first half of the year about the English channel – in small boats. According to the authorities, this is almost 50 percent than in the first half of 2024. The figures exert pressure on the Labor government of Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
According to data from the Ministry of the Interior in London, a total of 1194 migrants arrived in 18 boats on the British side of the canal last Saturday. This is the highest daily value this year so far.
A total of 19,982 people made the dangerous journey of the European mainland this year, as shown by the British government on Tuesday. The number was considerably higher than the previous high of 13,489 last year.
78 dead in the previous year
The English canal is only about 33 kilometers on the nearest place between Dover in Groot -Britain and Calais in France. Last year 78 people died during the dangerous intersection.
The British Prime Minister Strandmer had repeatedly announced since he took office in July 2024 to reduce the number of migration. According to media reports, Strander has negotiations on an agreement with French President Emmanuel Macron. Great -Britain would therefore return boats to France with migrants.
In exchange, asylum seekers with family in Great Britain would be admitted. The possible agreement could be presented in the coming week during Macron’s visit to London.
