Red alarm level in France. At temperatures about 40 degrees, public life is almost quiet. The highest heat warning level also applies in Italy and Spain (see video above). In Austria there are currently also the extreme weather conditions, up to 38 degrees are expected on Thursday. In Tyrol, however, you fight with the consequences of the serious storm.
The current heat wave has a strong grip on Europe: for the first time in five years, the Paris region, together with 15 other regions, activated the alarm level red. Hospitals prepare for victims of warmth. 1350 Public schools were closed due to heat and work outside are limited.
“The red level level corresponds to an extreme heat wave that is exceptional in its duration, intensity and geographical expansion,” said the weather service. To reduce the ozone tax, only cars with lower emissions of pollutants are allowed to drive in Paris.
Working in the glowing heat by autumn
The same picture in the neighboring country: in 21 of the 27 cities the highest heat alarm level applies to the Italians. The recommendation is not to leave the house. In Lombardy, Sicily, Puglia and Tuscany, work outside on construction sites, streets and farms is prohibited on hot days to September from 12.30 pm. until 4 p.m.
Unfortunately there is already at least one dead: a 47-year-old died in Bologna after working in the heat on a construction site. Spain is already a heat victim. A 51-year-old street cleaner died in Barcelona shortly after her team.
Mass -evacuations in Turkey
In Greece, the temperatures have been approaching the 40-degree brand for a few days. Forest fires have hit various coastal cities near the capital Athens. Rescue workers evacuated more than 50,000 people in Turkey, while the firefighters continued to fight hundreds of forest fires.
Extremes tax our health
The first heat wave is also flooded. People are looking for cooling. The extreme values strain our health enormously. In the previous year, the extreme again demanded 486 heat, according to Milieud Doctors. Children, the elderly and people with chronic diseases in particular suffer from the high temperatures.
Last June, the measurement history with a deviation of slightly less than +3 degrees compared to the long -term resources from 1991 to 2020. Compared to the June months in the period 1961-1990, there were even +4.7 degrees.
“Especially from Vorarlberg to Carinthia, the deviations were extremely high. 24 weather stations have set up a new maximum value for June. This includes Klagenfurt, Villach with 37.9 degrees and Feistritz OB Bleiburg with even 38.3 degrees,” Sums up Konstantin Brands, Meteorology of the Ubimet. The sun worked a lot of overtime: on the Schöckl – the local mountain of the Grazer – the sun seemed more than ever since the start of the measurement more than 60 years ago, the same applies to Abtenau in the Salzburg Tennengau.
The sun also makes the household water “cooking”. The Wörthersee already has 27 degrees, which is a record before the beginning of July and 4 degrees warmer than normal at this time of the year. Despite sometimes violent thunderstorms, a third of the normal amount of rain in Austria is missing
