Scotland are classified as second and Norway, out of the play-offs

Date:

Mohamed Elyonoussi’s goal four minutes from time avoided a sad goodbye for Norway in the qualifying phase of the Euro Cup, the final stage of which Scotland entered, albeit as second in the group.

The Scottish team is not only relying on itself to try to secure first place in group A. They also need a stumble from Spain. Neither place materialized and Steve Clarke’s side closed their trip with a goal but behind the Spanish team in the table.

The Norwegian team closed its qualifying phase without attending a major event. Erling Haaland, who did not play at Hampden Park due to an injury sustained against the Faroe Islands in last Thursday’s friendly, will not be part of the Germany 2024 lineup. Stale Solbakken’s team fell by the wayside again, closing their run with just three wins in eight games and without being able to consolidate their favorite status in one of the first two places they started at the beginning.

Norway did not even complete its qualifying phase when the match was won against an opponent with little at stake, although it started with an advantage with Aron Donnum’s goal after receiving the ball from Jorgen Strand Larsen.

It was a brilliant start with a goal after three minutes making changes for the home team ten minutes later thanks to a penalty converted by McGinn after a handball inside the area by Donnum saw VAR.

Norway regained the lead on the scoreboard after twenty minutes. The visiting team won with the exchange of blows and defensive fragility shown by the two. The ball was brought into the net by Jorgen Strand Larsen who took advantage of a pass from Julian Ryerson.

The Scandinavian team was unable to extend their advantage even though it had the opportunity to do so. Conversely, in an action initiated by Donnum, Leo Ostigard scored an own goal on the half-hour mark to cap off a frantic first half.

The speed decreased later. Many changes have stopped the game from continuing. And on the hour mark came the comeback thanks to Stuart Armstrong beating Egil Selvik after a cross from McGinn.

With victory in hand, the clash escaped Scotland in the end. Three changes in one move from Clarke to consolidate his advantage but in a final action, Mohamed Elyonoussi, who replaced Fredirk Aursnes, left the score at an equality that no one was satisfied with.
