Joel Moscatel remains in the top positions in Australia after day two

Date:

Cam Smith missed the cut in his Australian PGA Championship title defense after falling to 9 under par on Friday after a second-round 78, finished 21 shots off the lead.

Min Woo Lee leads the way with 12 strokes under par midway through the tournamentafter shooting a 5-under 66 on Friday, and Adam Scott tied for second at 11 under par after shooting a second-round 65.

Smith, the local favorite, was 2 down in the first round, but the 2022 British Open champion went further out of contention with a double-bogey, six bogeys and a solitary birdie in the second.

The Spanish Joel Moscatel, who surprised everyone in the lead after the first day, carded a 71 stroke to put himself at -84 effects from leading.

Japan’s Rikuya Hoshino is one of three players at 7 under par. The tournament was played at the Royal Queensland Golf Club, the proposed venue for the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane.

Smith missed putts, struggled with his driver and missed his irons on the riverside course. He bogeyed the 4th but double-bogeyed the 10th and ended his title defense. Next week he will play the Australian Open in Sydney.
