South Korea was allowed the striker Hwang Ui-jo for illegal recording of former partner. The player of Nottingham Forest transferred to City of Norwich (Championship) was dropped from his team accused of taking a video of an ex-girlfriend having sex without consent, just weeks before the start of the Asian Cup.
Hwang, who has denied the allegations against him, has been suspended from the team indefinitely pending a police investigation into the complaint. The suspension comes seven weeks before the start of the Asian Cup, but the Korean Football Association (KFA) believes it was inappropriate to select him amid an ongoing investigation.
“We have decided not to select Hwang Ui-jo for the national team until a clear conclusion has been reached about the facts,” read a statement from the KFA’s ethics committee. Lee Youn-nam, who heads the KFA’s ethics committee, told reporters that national players must act “with a high level of morality and responsibility.” Hwang, 31, is eligible to play for Norwich City.
South Korea coach Jurgen Klinsmann of Germany added: “I fully understand the current situation and will respect the decision of the Korean Football Association.”
