Levante coach Javi Calleja insisted on Friday that the team’s sports director Felipe Miñambres had not told him that his position was at stake in the event of Saturday’s defeat against Real Valladolid, although he admitted that he knew the business of football and sent the results.
“If Felipe has to contribute something at a tactical level to improve the team, he also told me this and this week, the same thing. We are not thinking about anything. There is no talk about: ‘Ugh, for You Javi, how complicated the situation is.’ ‘No, we talked every day this week about how to win,’ Calleja said in the pre-match press conference.
The Levante coach, who enters the clash having added just two points in the last six games, revealed that he was bothered by Miñambres’ comments in which he avoided confirming him in the position in case he loses against Real Valladolid.
“I heard what Felipe said and I think journalists like morbidity. He said a lot. He also dropped that we have to win, this is what we have to do. Obviously we all know how football goes, if we don’t need anyone to tell us,” he admitted.
“I don’t think he looked for a single culprit and spread the blame. In the end, I am the coach, we know how football works and those results often rule and at a given moment sports management can consider a thousand situations. He doesn’t think about such situations, he thinks about winning like me and he doesn’t have to ask anything,” he added.
Calleja assured that he has a “cool head and a clean conscience” and that he is “one hundred percent” and has “a lot of strength and energy” and highlighted the support he received from the locker room and the team’s management.
“We are all together and united. They always show me their support and support. We all know what football is, it is very clear and many times the results dictate, sometimes it shouldn’t be like that but depending on that, some steps or others are taken,” he stressed.
