Ang Bayern Munich has announced the signing of the Moroccan right-back Noussair Mazraoui on a free transfer from Ajax on Tuesday to the club’s first signing in the offseason. “Mazraoui is the next building block as we continue to strengthen our team in targeted ways,” said Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn. “We have big goals again for the new season.”
Bayern won the Bundesliga for the 10th consecutive season this year, but failed in the Champions League and German Cup. Mazraoui joined the Ajax academy in 2013 and made his first-team debut in 2018. He made 137 competitive appearances for the Dutch side, scoring 10 goals. Mazraoui has also scored a goal in 12 appearances for the Moroccan national team.
Bayern have been looking for a defender on the right side of the pitch since Hansi Flick became coach before Julian Nagelsmann took over last season. Nagelsmann can now move French defender Benjamin Pavard, who is playing on the right, back to his preferred position in the middle. Bayern have a vacancy there because Niklas Süle chose to go to Borussia Dortmund for free.
