There was no way for Burnley to gain positive momentum. Not even after reaching the rivalry against Wolverhampton after beating Sheffield United in style. Not only was it enough to win, but the team surrendered a single goal from Hee-Chan (1-0).
The first half pointed to a night where things would go well for Kompany’s team. Although they did not have much control of the ball, their good positioning on the field stifled the ideas of Gary O’Neil’s team and in fact the most dangerous chances were theirs. The bad thing is that an unexpected actor like Dan Bentley, in place of Jose Sa, was very inspired between the sticks and stopped all the arrivals, especially dangerous two in a row from Jay Rodríguez and Brownhill.
If that was bad news, it was even worse to see how Koleosho, one of Burnley’s most disruptive players, had to go off injured after half an hour. And if that wasn’t enough, adding that in one of their few arrivals, Wolves found Hee-Chan, their strongest player, after the serious loss of Berge to put his team ahead (42′).
Burnley could not overcome that blow. The passage in the locker room did not work, although the team began to control the ball more. He traded that for a blow, as O’Neil’s team didn’t suffer the slightest against a harmless team that didn’t bite again. Wolves didn’t need to either, because they cheated on the second goal especially Sarabia’s free kick, but they managed a fair victory.
