After just a few hours ago the Premier League gave approval to the sale of Chelsea, now it is the British Government that is giving OK. The 19 years of sanctioned Roman Abramovich as owner of the London club are coming to an end after Parliament approved the sale of the blue entity to a consortium led by Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly.
Abramovich was sanctioned for his links to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and it needs to be verified that the Russian oligarch did not benefit from the forced sale of the club that made his investment one of the most successful in European football. The club will be sold for 2.5 billion pounds, the highest price achieved by a sports team.
Chelsea has been operating under a government license since Abramovich’s assets were frozen in March and it will expire on May 31.
