The boxer Somluck ‘Somrak’ Kamsing, Thailand’s first Olympic gold medal winner has been accused of allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl, an accusation the former athlete has repeatedly denied.

Police informed local media on Monday that they received the complaint and indicated that they have opened the necessary procedures to investigate the events, which took place in Muang Khon Kaen district, in the northeastern province of Khon Kaen, about 450 kilometers from Bangkok.
According to local media, Somluck, 50, met the girl on Saturday night at a bar in Khon Kaen, where they stayed until dawn. Immediately, both went to a hotel, where, according to the victim’s complaint, the former Olympic champion sexually assaulted her.
Somluck, in several statements and interviews with the media, denied the allegations and said that he stopped making sexual advances in the hotel room when he learned that the girl was 17 years old, because the age of sexual consent in Thailand is 18 years old.
The former athlete admitted that he had some “intimacies” with the girl and admitted that they both went to the hotel, but he repeated that he immediately stopped having sex and fell asleep.
Muang Khon Kaen police chief Colonel Yossawaj Kaewsuebthannij explained that officers are investigating two aspects in this case. The first is the alleged sexual assault and, the second, that the girl and her friends were allowed to enter the bar, because entering night establishments is not allowed for minors under 20 year old in the country.
