TRIBUTES TO DON BENITO AYERBE, ENVIRONMENTAL PIONEER

If Canfranc Canfranc 2023 witnessed the wonderful rebirth of the Station as a luxury hotel, recreating the original atmosphere of the Belle Epoque, now 2024 is the time to honor the environmental technician who made it possible.

As a forest engineer, Don Benito Ayerbe knows how to combine tradition and modernity at the highest level: He combined the wisdom of the ancestors of the land by replanting the mountains of the Canfranc Valley with pines, firs and oak, with the most modern technology, created the dry dock concept as an avalanche containment system. 112 years have passed since the beginning of his work, which is now a source of pride for Aragon and all of Spain.

Every year, the purpose of Canfranc remains the same on July 18, 1928 when King Alfonso built a joint sustainable growth, from Cape Higuer to Cap de Creus, from Zaragoza to Toulouse. The fight against an empty Spain today gives its centenary promise more weight than ever.

SIX MOUNTAIN RACES IN THE PYRENEES

This 2024, the many new features released between 2022 and 2023 will be combined: Uphill 4K and Long Distance 26K races, on the one hand, as well as streaming television broadcasting, always focused on any of the mountains runner of their choice, as long as their family and friends can experience the Canfranc Valley as one of them, whether at the foot of the mountain, or from thousands of kilometers away.

This was demonstrated by the family of Joyce Njeru, the Kenyan four-time champion of 2022 and 2023 in the Uphill and Classic, who in the last edition did not stop encouraging him with enthusiasm, sharing through live streaming every minute before , during and after. his trials.. From nervousness at the start, to heartache due to a sprained ankle during the demanding descent of La Moleta or the final joy at the finish line.

The 2024 program once again covers the three days of the mountains in Canfranc, from September 6 to 8: it once again includes six well-known mountain races now spread over the whole weekend. Uphill 4K, Classic 16K, Long Distance 26K, Marathon 45K, Ultra 70K and Ultra 100K.
