The Thai Trichat Cheenglab won the ‘Race To Costa del Sol’ after a misunderstanding of the Spanish Open in Marbellain which India was the winner Aditya Ashok and where he fought for the Order of Merit with Celine Boutier, Diksha Dagar, Johanna Gustavsson, Alexandra Försterling and Ana Peláez.
Cheenglab won the title by accumulating 1,966.52 points in 24 trials and finish 90.64 ahead of French Celine Boutier, second, and Indian Dagar, third 50.77 behind gala.
In addition to winning the Race to Costa del Sol, Cheenglab also won the rookie of the year awardbeat Försterling by 378.43 points and became the sixth player to win both titles in the same season following in the footsteps of England’s Laura Davies, Carlota Ciganda, Germany’s Esther Henseleit, Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul and Sweden’s Linn Grant.
Cheenglab got it his first top-10 of the season in the individual test of Aramco Team Series Singapore, is runner-up in the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open before finishing fifth at the La Sella Open and a few weeks later capturing his first LET title at the Big Green Egg Open.
In the last two months of the season, Cheenglab maintained its consistency at sixth place in Hong Kong, fourth place in Riyadh and second place in Mallorca Ladies Open; and thanks to his good form he rose from 728th place to 90th in Rolex Women’s World Golf Ranking.
