Jumabeda has until 2023 to bring and renew synthetic turf on ten surfaces in the Mediterranean Sea and the Gómez Meseguer
Final step so that the earth disappears from all football fields of Cartagena. The City Council this Wednesday awarded the works to install synthetic turf on the ten remaining surfaces and renew the old plastic of another two, in the Mediterranean urbanization and the sports city of Gómez Meseguer. The company Jumabeda is willing to pay almost three million euros for it, foreseeable before the end of the legislature: in June 2023.
The eleven football fields of Los Belones and the World Cup 82 will be the first. The projects have been in preparation for more than a year and in this latest installation, it is planned to additionally work on football fields seven and five and renew both the electrical circuit with LED lighting and the irrigation system.
The other pitches are Las Seiscientas (López Belmonte), Villalba and Pozo Estrecho (Rafael García), in football seven; and La Aljorra (Luis Guarch) and Alumbres (El Secante) in five. And the football team of the IES Santa Lucía, which is owned by the Autonomous Community but with municipal use. In total, ten surfaces have been anchored in the past century, where about 1200 players from 63 teams have to deal with.
“A notorious and harmful field”
The contract also includes the renovation of the artificial turf of the Mediterranean and Cartagena FC, both 11 against 11. These fields were the first to receive the synthetic, over a decade ago, and are currently in urgent need of replacement. The latter’s condition even prompted FC Cartagena B to make their voices heard a few months ago, when they played a third RFEF match there. “It is a notorious and harmful field for the health of football players, it is not allowed,” said the coach of subsidiary Efesé, Pepe Aguilar.
Finally, the contract will also lead to the renewal of sprinklers in the Mediterráneo urbanization and the introduction of LED lighting in La Aljorra. This club has just been promoted to Preferential, for the first time in 20 years, and its players suffer daily from the “twilight” at Luis Guarch.
It should be remembered that in April 2021 it was announced that all projects, drafted, would be contracted shortly and awarded after the summer. Everything has been delayed and budget adjustment.
