The Costa Rican goalkeeper of French PSG, Keylor Navaswho celebrated this Thursday reaching 20 million followers on the social network instagram and shared a live broadcast where he fondly recalled his time at real Madrid and the Saprissa, the two clubs he has been a fan of since childhood.
“My whole family is Saprissista, so that’s instilled in you from a young age. “I had the joy of playing for Deportivo Saprissa and that was something incredible,” Navas said.
And he added that “at the international level he has been from Madrid since he was little and also God gave me the opportunity to play for Madrid. For one as a fan (follower) of a team, to be able to play for that team there are no words to explain the happiness.”
The goalkeeper, who answered questions from his followers, recalled the third place he got with Saprissa in Club World Cup 2005 and the titles he won at the club, as well as the three consecutive Champions Leagues he won at Real Madrid.
The 37-year-old goalkeeper commented that he would like to retire from one of the teams he played for during his career, but said he hopes to stay in good physical condition to reach the 2026 World Cup, which will be his fourth World Cup with Costa Rica.
Navas said he felt “a bit disappointed” with an injury which has troubled him in recent weeks and added that it is “not good” to be a substitute, as it has been at PSG since the arrival of Italian Gianluigi Donnaruma.
Reflecting on his career, Navas described it as “an incredible privilege” to play and share daily life with footballers such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Neymar and Marcelo.
He also recalled Costa Rica’s World Cup qualifiers Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022and notably the shot that stopped Greece in the penalty shootout of the round of 16 at Brazil 2014, helping his team qualify for the quarterfinals for the first time in history.
In the live broadcast with Navas the footballer Christian Bolaños, his teammate in Saprissa and the Costa Rican national team, whom he congratulated on his career and wished him success on the stage that begins in January with his retirement from soccer when the Costa Rican tournament ends this December.
