Spainwinner of worldrise to the top of the classification of FIFA published this Friday after advancing to the final four of the UEFA Nations League. Spain finished this month at the top of a group that included Sweden, who topped the latest FIFA rankings, and Spain are now number one for the first time, ahead of the United States, France and Cup finalists England.
Sweden fell four places to 5th place. FIFA said Spain became the fourth country to top the women’s rankings since its creation in 2003, after the United States, Germany and Sweden. Spain will play in the Nations League mini-tournament in February along with France, Germany and the Netherlands. Two teams will join hosts France at the Paris Olympics in July. A total of 192 of FIFA’s 211 member associations now feature women in the ranks. The next edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Ranking will be published in March 2024.
