The Beijing Marathon was held this Sunday in the Chinese capital, attended by international runners for the first time since the start of the covid-19 pandemic.
In the men’s category, the title of winner went to Ethiopian Geleta Ulfatawith a time of 2 hours, 7 minutes and 41 seconds, while Kenyan Sheila Chepkirui did the same in the women’s section, stopping the stopwatch at 2 hours 21 minutes and 57 seconds, local newspaper Beijing Daily reported .
More than 30,000 runners participated in the event in the Chinese capitalwhich was covered this Sunday by a thick layer of atmospheric pollution.
Chen Tianyu, who finished seventh with 2 hours, 8 minutes and 11 secondsbroke the Chinese record in the Beijing marathon and achieved the third best mark in his country’s history.
The Beijing Marathon has been organized since 1981 and is considered the most prestigious in China, with around 30,000 participants from all over the world.
In 2022, its celebration continued, although participation was limited to local runners.after a three-year hiatus due to China’s strict ‘zero covid’ policy, has now been dismantled.
