Happens often. Sevilla and Athletic, two teams that have not drawn a game so far in Liga, drew a draw in the duel played between them today at Jesús Navas. The Bilbao team took the lead in the 34th minute when Landaluze took advantage of a loose ball in the local area from Nerea Nevado’s lateral free kick. It was all 0-1 at the break when Payne took advantage of a ball into space to beat Quiñones on his way out of the area.
The visitors became less and less as the minutes passed. The locals, on the other hand, have improved over time. The changes also had a greater impact on a Seville team that seemed to believe in victory more than its rival.
Athletic’s start is promising. The lions, with Clara Pinedo and Azkona as the stars, were able to open the scoring with two shots. Landaluze was, however, the one to take advantage of a loose ball inside the local area after a poisoned cross from Nerea Nevado to open the scoring. The lions seemed to be in control of the situation when the tie came.
In their attempt to find the local goal, the Seville players took advantage of a counter-attack to leave the ever-quick Payne in front of Quiñones. The Athletic goalkeeper made a mistake early on, an incident which the home forward took advantage of to beat it from outside the area in stoppage time.
Athletic hardly posed any danger after the break. In fact, Aznar removed Pinedo, Nahikari, Azkona and Mariana from the field. Cristian Toro’s changes improved a Sevilla team that tried, but failed to beat Quiñones again.
