Lorenzo Santolino and Javi Vega warn about the dangers of Dakar 2024

Date:

Dakar 2024 is approaching and before the pilots head to Saudi Arabia, where this January a new edition of the toughest race in the world will take place, two of the great Spanish rivals on motorcycles, Lorenzo Santolino from Salamanca and Javi from Madrid Vega, visited the MD editorial office. Two Pont Grup riders review the toughness they expect for this edition and imagine the dangers motorcycle riders face.

In addition, they compared the huge differences in their two careers. Javi will go unaided, having to fix the bike at the end of each stage without the help of mechanics and sleeping in a tent. The man from Madrid wants to win the unassisted category (Original by Motul) after placing 2nd in class at Dakar 2023. However, since he finished 30th overall in motorcycles last year, he is considered which is an elite pilot level and they do not allow him to appear in the classification of the Original category, which is designed for beginners. Thus, they will compete under the same conditions as theirs but will only appear in the general classification.

For his part, Lorenzo Santolino is an official Sherco pilot and he has the comfort of a professional pilot. Its purpose is very different. Vega wants to add another goal, while Lorenzo wants to fight again with the best and aim for the final Top-5 in motorcycles. Lorenzo is 6th in 2021, his best result so far, and he wants to improve it in motorcycles, a very good and competitive category.
