Up to 16 clubs in our competition and around 32 footballers currently active in Spain can be affected by Africa Cup which is scheduled to be held from January 13 to February 11. It is the African continental tournament for national teams, namely European Cup, where all the players summoned by the 24 participating teams must go. No club can refuse.
This is clear in the annex to the Regulations on the Statute of Transfer of Players of FIFA regarding the release of players for association team representatives. In its first article related to the principles of men’s football, it first clarified that “Clubs are obliged to release their registered players in favor of representatives of the national teams for which they have the right to play because of their nationality , if the association summons the player on the issue. Any different agreement between the player and the club is prohibited.”
On the second point he also added that “Within the meaning of the previous section, the release of players is mandated for matches that appear on the international calendar as well as for matches in the final competitions of FIFA World Championshipof the FIFA Confederations Cup and championships of the representatives of the “A” team of the confederations, provided that the association in question is a member of the confederation organization”.
And in this situation the Africa Cup like other continental tournaments the six confederations rely on FIFA. It appears in the latest calendar published at the beginning of this year, 2023, which runs until 2030. There is no room for Spanish clubs and clubs from the rest of the world to receive a call from one of their players to attend at this appointment. They are obliged to do so.
