A new tennis season began on December 29. Since this could not happen, it did so on Australian soil, specifically in Perth, one of the headquarters of United Cup.
That’s where Spain and Brazil start with the first point of group A which is completed in Poland by Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz. The pairing is opened Alejandro Davidovich and Thiago Seyboth Wildwho managed to hold the type only in the first six games.
The break from Malaga at 3-3 marked the turning point of a match that no longer has history. A 6-4 lead in the first set gave way to a massive display in the second, where they didn’t concede a single game to close out the match in a 6-4, 6-0 rout.
Problems for Spain came later, as Sara Sorribes fell 7-6(1), 6-2 against Beatriz Haddad Maia. The series will be decided in the mixed doubles match between Davidovich and Sorribes against Haddad Maia and Marcelo Melo.
Spain will not play again until Monday, January 1, when faces are seen with Poland at 3 am, Spanish peninsular time. Roberto Carballés, David Vega, Marina Bassols and Rosa Vicens complete the Hispanic lineup of a competition with figures such as Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper, Ruud, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jessica Pegula.
The United States defended the corona. In six groups, the winners advance to the quarterfinals along with the two best runners-up. Direct qualification, where the semifinals and finals will take place in Sydney.
