The defender of Real Madrid David Alaba revealed on Friday that he is currently facing “one of the biggest challenges” of his career, after undergoing surgery for a serious injury he sustained in a LaLiga match against Villarreal last December 17.
“It took me a while to process what happened last week,” wrote the Austrian footballer in his first message posted on Instagram since surgical intervention of the cruciate ligament of the left knee where he was admitted on the 19th in a hospital in Innsbruck, capital of the Austrian Tyrol.
The 31-year-old Austrian footballer was diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and underwent a successful operation, according to his doctors, but he will need several months to fully recover, so it is expected that he did not survive the rest of the season.
“In my career I have faced several challenges, but this is probably one of the biggest so far,” Alaba now revealed. “I will face it and get to the top of this mountain,” He added in his short message, where he thanked the support received from his teammates, from Real Madrid, from his friends and from his family.
He was chosen for the tenth time ‘footballer of the year’ Austria native, the Real Madrid player is the most successful Austrian footballer in history. The national team of the Alpine republic is crossing its fingers that he can fully recover and participate in the Euro Cup that starts in Germany in June 2024, although it seems doubtful that he will achieve that goal.
