Paris celebrates entering 2024 with a light show dedicated to the Olympic Games

Date:

Paris celebrates the entry into 2024 tonight as every year on the Champs-Elysées avenue, where up to a million people are expected with a light and music show dedicated to this occasion on the Olympic Games next summer, and under strict security measures.

A total of 90,000 police and Gendarmerie officers will be mobilized across France for New Year’s Eve, with 6,000 in Paris, with particular attention to the terrorist threat that law enforcement considers “very strong.”

On the Champs-Elysées, five hours before the traditional fireworks at the beginning of each year, the show starts at 7:00 pm local time. The strong point is the video projections on the Arc de Triomphe, carried out by the production company Cosmo AV.

The first projections are images of the legacy of the Paris Olympic Games in 1924 and then others will come where the most famous avenue in the city is associated with sport and the celebrations of French sporting victories there.

Cosmo AV has also prepared, thanks to the 16 mega laser projector, images of how Paris was transformed by the Olympics a century ago, evocations of expressionist and surrealist art and, finally, an immense stopwatch that will mark the time until midnight.

In the words of the City Council, the show will allow spectators to experience the “biggest wave ever” and a giant karaoke, as well as watch an aerial show by the circus group Deus ex Machina.

Furthermore, the singer Slimane will perform ‘Mon Amour’, the song for which France will compete in the 2024 edition of Eurovision.

To try to reduce the security risks, the Prefecture of Police has banned the sale of alcohol around the Champs Elysees, where access will also be prevented – by searches by officers – with weapons, bottles, blunt object or pyrotechnic device.

The Police Prefecture also insisted that any protest demonstration is prohibited, after the Urgency for Palestine collective launched a call to display Palestinian flags before midnight.

Great security measures

Law enforcement forces will use drones to try to monitor from the air the hundreds of thousands of people who will gather for hours in one of the capital’s most touristy areas.

The Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmaninwho recalled on Friday that France has been living under the terrorist threat “for many years” and that this has been exacerbated by the conflict with Israel and Palestine.

On December 2, a 26-year-old man with dual French and Iranian nationality stabbed to death a German tourist and tried to kill two other people near the Eiffel Tower in an act he said he did in the name of Islam. State. .
