Ligue 1 president Vincent Labrune, responded with a strong letter to his LaLiga counterpart Javier Tebas, in which he said he was “shocked” after the Spanish leader criticized PSG after Kylian’s renewal Mbappé by asserting that “this is an insult to football” considering that the French club has recorded financial losses in recent seasons.
Mbappé, who has been linked with Real Madrid for several months, finally turned down the white club’s offer to join at zero cost and extended his contract with PSG until 2025.
LaLiga reacted angrily to the contract extension, saying it would file a complaint against PSG with UEFA because the deal “attacks the economic stability” of European football.
“We would like to express in the strongest terms our disagreement, as well as our misunderstanding, with his recent attacks on Ligue 1 and one of our clubs,” Labrune wrote.
“His disrespectful slander today seems to be directed at Kylian Mbappé, who is widely recognized as one of the best players in the world and has simply decided not to join his league, by choice, despite a similar offer from Real Madrid, Labrune continues.
“More surprised by his status at UEFA”
“We are even more surprised that you made these attacks because of your status as a representative of the European Leagues (which should represent all leagues in Europe, including Ligue 1) and as a member of the UEFA Executive Committee (whose role is to promote the collective interest of European football), ”Labrune wrote in his letter.
“I don’t have to remind him that the monetary balance policies you’ve repeatedly complained about are the very policies he helped create and pass” as a member of the UEFA Executive Committee, Labrune said.
“It’s hard to follow the true background of his letter and what the relevance of a player’s contract renewal to a club from another league is for LaLiga,” Labrune’s letter continued.
“It is unacceptable that it destroys our Leagues and clubs”
“Your attacks on Ligue 1 and one of our clubs, Paris Saint-Germain, and one of our players, Kylian Mbappé, are based on your own interpretation of the financial crisis and competitive imbalance , which you have repeatedly associated with Ligue 1 and one of our clubs. “
“The fact that you have publicly and repeatedly accepted this position against Ligue 1 on this issue and are defaming our League and our clubs is unacceptable and clearly wrong,” Labrune said, who asked to Javier Tebas, who treats players playing in France “with a little respect”
Mention Real Madrid and Barça
Labrune objected to claiming Real Madrid had “two of the highest paid players in world football sitting on their bench”, while Barcelona had a “debt level of € 1.5bn”.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta said in August that the club’s debts had reached 1.35 billion euros ($ 1.45 billion).
Labrune added that Tebas ’previous attacks on the likes of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos, who left Barcelona and Real Madrid, respectively, and went to PSG were also unreasonable.
