Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina, first and second favorites, respectively, strolled to forcefully beat the Chinese Lin Zhu and the Belgian Elise Mertens, and both reached the quarterfinals of the women’s tournament in Brisbane (Australia); WTA500 category, on a fast track.
Both Sabalenka (no. 2 WTA) and Rybakina (no. 4) dropped a game in their respective matches.the first was solved in one hour and ten minutes, and in only fifty-six minutes by the second.
In the quarterfinals, with five Russians out of eight in contention, Sabalenka will face her compatriot Daria Kasatkina, fifth favorite in Brisbane and earlier defeated Polish Magda Linette, 6-4 and 6-2.
Rybakina, for her part, will face Russian Anastasia Potapovawho surprised her compatriot Veronika Kudermetova with difficulty, 7-5, 6-7 (7) and 6-4.
The other quarterfinal duels were between Czech Linda Noskova, who ousted Argentine Julia Riera, by a tight 6-1, 6-7 (4) and 6-3, and the Russian. Mirra Andreeva, who defeated Anastasia Rodionova 6-1, 6-1; and between Latvian Jelena Ostapenko and Russian Victoria Azarenka.
