Franz Beckenbauer, The legendary German football player, coach and manager who died this Monday at the age of 78, was a special guest at the 63rd edition of Grand Gala of World of sports which was held at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya and awarded the best Spanish athletes in 2010.
Considered one of the great legends in world football history, Franz Beckenbauer received a sports career award from our director, Santi Nolla. ‘The Kaiser’ as he was known, was the captain of the German team that won the 1972 Euro Cup and the 1974 World Cup, as well as Bayern Munich who won three consecutive European Cups between 1974 and 1976. Twice ‘Ballon d’Or’ (1972 and 1976), he stood out from a very young age for his beauty and talent, establishing himself as a libero.
Javier Godó, Conde de Godó, the host of the Gala, presided over by the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia Artur Mas and attended by the then mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu.
