UD Las Palmas-Villarreal: the islanders are back in the spirit of victory after the failure in Tenerife

Date:

UD Las Palmas regained its agenda this Monday ahead of the match it should face this weekend against Villarreal CF, which also comes with an unfriendly face after the Unionistas de Salamanca eliminated the peninsular club in a penalty shootout in the Copa del Rey round of 32 tie. But UD Las Palmas has a very complicated start to 2024: Real Madrid, Rayo Vallecano and Atlético de Madrid in addition to Villarreal FC.

Today’s UD Las Palmas coach has one thing in common, Xavi García Pimientaand his counterpart from Villarreal CF, Marcelino García Toral: both players charged after being eliminated from the Copa del Rey.

Overall, Villarreal CF has a slight advantage in head-to-head matches between the two teams. The two teams have played 103 games against each otherwith Villarreal CF winning 52, UD Las Palmas winning 37 and 14 draws.

The yellow players went to training this Monday with the ritual they do every day under the gaze of García Pimienta. UD Las Palmas won only one game in Tenerife at the Rodríguez López Stadium (1-3), drew five and lost nine games since 2000.

Both clubs have a rich history of rivalry dating back to the 1930s. The two teams have met more than 100 times in official competitions, with Villarreal CF having the advantage with 52 wins to UD Las Palmas’ 37. The teams have also faced off in the Copa del Rey on 14 occasions, with Villarreal CF winning 9 of those matches and UD Las Palmas winning five.
