Crossing the words with X’s in between Gary Lineker and the British writer and comedian Lee Kern. It started by accusing the former footballer, now a football commentator and analyst, of taking advantage of Qatari money during the last World Cup. He said Lineker received money from Qatar, a country with no human rights, through his coverage of the 2022 World Cup.
“Lineker is a rich con man. You could say he’s a hypocrite and a fraud. He’s profited from human misery more than most of us,” he wrote. To which Lineker responded: “I have temporarily unblocked you to inform you that your tweet was defamatory. I have not taken one cent, one pound, one real or anything from Qatar for the World Cup. I have worked only for the BBC and only for the BBC, I suggest you remove your inflammatory lies immediately.”
