The Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana Gran Premi Banc Sabadell (VCV) celebrates its 75th year from this Wednesday until next Sunday with five stages covering three provinces and, although they don’t have any high mountain finishes, they will have great climbs like l’Oronet, La Frontera or Miserat peak, the great novelty of this edition.
The first leg of the tour on the European calendar will attract talented figures such as Russian Aleksander Vlasov (Bora), accompanied by his German companion Lennard Kamna; Austrian Felix Grosschartner (UAE), supported by American Brandon McNulty and Frenchman Pavel Sivakov; The Spanish Pello Bilbao (Bahrain), which will have the Slovenian Matej Mohoric and the Colombian Santiago Buitrago as team members; the Australian Michael Matthews (Jayco Alula), or the Austrian Patrick Konrad (LIDL Trek).
The Volta starts this Wednesday in Benicàssim (Castellón) and ends on Sunday in the port of València and not in the Town Hall Square, another of the changes of this new edition with Saturday as the queen stage of the route, with 175 kilometers between the Alicante towns of Moraira and Vall d’Ebo and five ports in between .
The test will feature seven World Team teams, Bora-Hansgrohe, UAE Team Emirates, Intermarché-Wanty, Movistar, Bahrain Victorious, LIDL-Trek and Team Jayco Alula, joined by various Pro Teams, such as the Spanish Euskaltel, Caja Rural , Burgos-BH and Kern-Pharma, and other Continental Teams.
The first stage between Benicàssim and Castellón will be 166 kilometers and three ports, the last of which is the Desert de les Palmes, before ending in the provincial capital of Castellón.
The second stage, for its part, will leave from the Valencian municipality of Canals and reach the Mancomunitat de la Valldigna on a route of 164 kilometers, with three third-category ports and a final climb before reaching the region of La Safor. .
Friday will be the flattest day of the weekwith a route between the Alicante towns of San Vicente del Raspeig and Orihuela where after leaving San Vicente, they will climb towards the interior of Agost and Novelda and then travel to Vega Baja and end in Orihuela, in a sprint-friendly stage.
The fourth day, however, will be the queen phase of the race and when the general classification is likely to be decided.. There will be 175 kilometers between Teulada Moraira and Vall d’Ebo with five ports in between, including the peaks of Benimantell, Confrides, La Cabaña, the port of Tollos and above all the peak of Miserat, a first- class port that will decide the race before reaching the finish line of Vall d’Ebo.
On Sunday, Bétera and València will be the departure and arrival municipalities of the last day of the Volta a la Comunitat Valencianawhich despite having only 93 kilometers, will have two ports, one of the third class like l’Oronet and another of the first class, like La Frontera, before reaching the flat land until reaching València.
Also, on Sunday morning, the Volta Féminas will also be celebrated, which only has one day but has already started a tradition, as this is the sixth consecutive year it has been celebrated.
