The Catalan Sergio Garrote became this Sunday European paralympic cycling road champion in handbike 2 categoryin a championship closed by the Spanish delegation with a total of 13 medals -two gold, eight silver and three bronze- in Upper (Austria).
Garrote, Paralympic champion at the Tokyo Games in the time trial, a discipline in which he is also the runner-up in this European Championship, climbed to the top of the podium after completing a perfect race on a 4.4-kilometer circuit that needs to be given of five laps until you reach 22.
The man from Barcelona recorded a time of 43:03 and was 22 seconds ahead of Frenchman Florian Jouanny. Third was the German Manuel Scheichl.
On the fifth and final day of the European Championship, the Spanish delegation added two more metals.
Luis Miguel Garcia-Marquinadays before was declared runner-up in the H3 category time trial, the money on the road not to be with Italian Martino Pini, who after a joint breakaway starred in a start that the Spaniard could not continue to face alone the last nine kilometers of 52 of his career.

The Spanish delegation bid farewell to this European Championship with 13 medals: Ricardo Ten and Sergio Garrote each added one gold and one silver, Gonzalo García Abella and Luis Miguel García-Marquina two silver, the tandem formed by Christian Venge and Noel Martín was one silver and one bronze, as well as Maurice Eckhard. Óscar Higuera also took bronze.
