He Atlético de Madrid signed Arthur Vermeeren from Royal Antwerp FC. For the mattress team, he was the most expensive signing of the last winter market, paying 18 million euros for him, which could be more, depending on some goals.
He made his debut in the last games of Atlético, in League matches Vallecano Ray, it was a complete surprise because he had only had a few training sessions. But the young Belgian left an impression of nerves and was substituted at half-time. Vermeeren talked to DAZN Belgium about his first weeks at Madrid.
“I didn’t expect the game to be that fast. We have already discussed what the adaptation process will be. I was told that you will not be in the big games anymore but you will have a chance to show yourself,” explained Vermeeren.
He himself thinks that his debut was not as expected. “I also know it wasn’t my best game,” he began and added: “Nerves? Not really. It’s hard for me to describe it, but it’s different. I was a young signer but I didn’t prepare myself that it was different in Antwerp. “Now that I know, I feel better about it, prepare for it,” he said.
ROOM COVERED WITH CLOTHES
What Vermeeren liked was that the costumes supported him. “Everyone immediately supported me and said it was normal. They told me ‘in the first week it’s difficult and you’ve only trained a few times’,” explained the Belgian midfielder.
“At first I didn’t feel good but I told myself, that’s normal, it’s a good thing the first game is over. That’s the hardest. In the first moments I felt that I was not myself. I felt different. That was the first time for me, because in Antwerp it always works immediately,” he commented.
The young footballer wants to be included as soon as possible. And this means learning the language quickly. “My Spanish? A little (he says this in Spanish). It’s not very good. I already know some words and can communicate. “I want to learn quickly,” he said.
