Devastating winter sports accident on Saturday in the Tyrolean Ötztal: a 60-year-old skier from Germany collided with an acquaintance in Sölden and fell. He lost consciousness and suffered several broken ribs in the crash.
The accident took place on the Gaislachkogel. The 60-year-old was part of a group of eight from Germany and was skiing on blue slope number 8 when he collided with another group member (51).
Take an emergency helicopter to the hospital
Both men fell. “As a result of the collision, the 60-year-old lost consciousness. He received first aid on the spot from the snow rescue team. The alerted emergency helicopter crew continued to provide emergency medical care and eventually transported the man to Zams Hospital,” police reported.
In the hospital, several broken ribs and a concussion were eventually diagnosed. The second skier involved was uninjured.
